How it Works
Making the Web More Human

7 Billion People technology provides deep personalization: more precise, relevant, timely, and actionable than ever before.
When a customer engages with a talented salesperson, that salesperson instantly and intuitively adapts to the customer: how they communicate, what they are interested in, what details they find compelling, and how they prefer information to be presented.
In the online realm, the experience is completely different. Traditional ecommerce sites are static, with one-site-fits-all merchandising, navigation, and overall presentation. While first generation content/offer targeting solutions provide a level of personalization, demographics and order history are only one piece of the personalization goal. Even when demographic information is accurately addressed, there is still a big difference between delivering the right message and delivering that message in the right way.
This difference shows up in conversion rates. Brick and mortar stores typically have visit to conversion ratios of 40% (visits to sales) or more. On the other hand, “good” online stores experience conversion rates in the 3% range. Those sites with a conversion range of 10% are considered rare and exceedingly successful. Considering that users typically visit an ecommerce site with an intention to buy, this conversion rate is unsatisfactorily low. At 7 Billion People, we think the web can do better.
Actionable Analytics and Deep Personalization
Most of today’s ecommerce sites are not designed to model the best off-line sales process. Nor are they designed with the visitor’s decision-making process in mind. They are simply evolutions of ecommerce sites that came before them.
Deep Personalization is the transparent and dynamic
modification of website content and layout for
every individual, based on psychology.
To support these sites, typical ecommerce metrics measure what users have done on the site with a historical, backwards looking-view. These metrics answer questions like:
- How many people come to the site?
- Where did the traffic come from?
- How much did it cost me to get a potential customer to the site?
- How many conversions happened?
What has been missing from the equation is the why, with an action-oriented perspective:
- Why do people leave on this page?
- Why do customers come to the site but not close?
- Why don’t some customers engage or convert?
- How have user behaviors been changing over time, and how does that compare to what is going on now?
- What areas of the site are failing which customers?
- With all the things on our project list, what things will have the biggest impact?
7 Billion People technology provides proactive, actionable behavioral metrics coupled with dynamic-site changing technology that optimizes the user experience for every customer.
According to a 2007 survey done by Choicestream, 76% of customers are interested in receiving personalized content, yet poorly done personalization frustrates those very same customers. That very same survey reported that many customers were spending less time and money than they intended because they were unable to find the products and/or information they needed in order to make a purchase decision. With “acceptable” conversion rates hovering in the 3% range and cost per acquisition heading skyward… deep personalization is win/win initiative.
